CDW Berbee Announces SIP Support for Atlas Sound IP Speakers and Zone Controllers

Offering allows easy access to analog paging systems from SIP-based phone systems

MADISON, Wis. – December 11 , 2006 --MADISON, WI. – CDW Berbee Information Networks Corporation, a CDW company, today announced SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) support for Atlas Sound IP Speakers and Zone Controllers. These Speakers and Zone Controllers make it easier to communicate with all employees at once. Access to traditional paging systems has been limited to the building where the system is installed. With Atlas IP Speakers and Zone Controllers, companies can now pick up their phone and talk live to every employee, no matter where they are located on the network .

By providing SIP support, users can now send audio messages to their existing traditional paging systems, IP Speakers, and Zone Controllers through their IP Telephony system without the need for any additional software. Cisco CallManager assigns a phone number directly to the Zone Controller or IP speaker, and it is ready for use. Users then dial the phone number and talk live to IP Speakers or existing analog paging systems (Bogen, Rauland, Valcom, etc.). SIP support is currently released for Cisco CallManager 5.0, but will be tested on other SIP-based phone systems in the near future.

“SIP support allows easy access to existing analog paging systems from SIP-based phone systems.” said Ken Bywaters, vice president of CDW Berbee’s Voice Products practice. “Not only can you talk to individual locations with our Zone Controllers and IP Speakers, you can talk to all your locations simultaneously. Your audio messaging reach is limited only by your network. Our customers are demonstrating that this capability is critical not only in emergency situations but also in the daily routine of conducting business. It's a revolutionary advance in the area of public address.”

The InformaCast® Compliant IP Speaker, manufactured by Atlas Sound, is a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE using an 802.3af standard) loudspeaker that requires only a RJ-45 connector to connect to existing data networks. In addition to SIP support, the IP Speaker is compatible with the InformaCast® Broadcasting application. Support of the Multicast IP protocol allows simultaneous broadcast to both phones and speakers. Standard speaker models include indoor, indoor with a synchronized digital clock, outdoor speakers and speakers with a remotely controlled microphone.

Zone Controller Hardware (RJ-45 to network/line out to amplifier) available from Atlas Sound, connects the network to an amplifier. From there, a user can daisy chain analog speakers, allowing organizations to place existing analog speakers on the IP network and easily access them either directly from a SIP device or from InformaCast.
