CDW Berbee Completes Massive Wireless Implementation for Marquette University
A Cisco case study of Cisco’s cutting-edge LWAPP technology
As the first channel partner in the U.S. Central area to earn Cisco’s highest wireless certification—Advanced Specialization: Wireless LAN—and the 2006 Cisco Global Solution Innovation Partner of the Year, CDW Berbee has become Cisco’s go-to partner for complex implementations of cutting-edge technology in the wireless arena.
In January, 2007, CDW Berbee completed a massive wireless implementation at Marquette University using cutting-edge Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) technology. This involved converting 300 access points from their existing IOS-based system and implementing 400 additional access points, resulting in greatly increased coverage throughout the campus. In the first weeks of the semester, over 4000 students configured their laptops to employ this network.
The network is configured to detect rogue access points that can compromise network security, and this implementation resulted in elimination of more than 500 of these in dorm areas. Best of all, the new system greatly increased efficiency in managing the network and reduced help desk activity surrounding wireless network issues by 70%.
